Konstantin Achkov -sculptor/designer and Кaloyan Vasilev designer/ expert in wood and epoxy resin have come together under the joint project combining elements of the sculpture school of thought and functionality. By the act of combining the two, the goal of our work is to create something artsy with the day to day functional qualities of furniture.

Our logic is based on how products should look and what distinct qualities they should contain in order to be functional.

To be absolutely precise- our goal is to create something that is not only in its full form but also entirely unique.

To achieve uniqueness in our designs we’ve chose to work with epoxy resin, having it’s amazing opportunities to combine colours and different materials.

These elements are to be handmade by KA and his speciality as a sculptor as well as KV and his deep experience, who will further impact and guarantee the quality of each product.

The products we’ve created are intuitively divided into groups by the materials being used into their creation, as the final form is thiught of via the characteristics and capabilities of each material.

They are also grouped via the specific ways in which they can be assembled and logic of the form. All of our creations are a modernistic mix of minimalism, brutalism, and futurism, where we’ve incorporated an element of speed as well. Our aim is to display flawless linking elements, which are to be as intermediaries between the main console flat piece and the functional details of the product, such as the legs, the seat and the backrest. By doing so, the main panel is kept as a flat two sided пластика, over which we have the freedom to create different functionalities.

Konstantin

Achkov

Konstantin Achkov graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia with a master's degree majoring in "Sculpture" in the class of Prof. Krum Damyanov, in 2002. Since his student years, he has been developing his design works in parallel with sculpture. He also began to deal with the complex tensegrity structures where the solid elements do not touch each other, but are carried in space by a geometric network of tensioned ropes. For his developments and monumental works in the theme "The Fish" and "One Horsepower", he received the recognition of the creator of tensegrity himself, Kenneth Snelson. Another long-term research of his, for which he received international awards and recognition, is the creation of self-locking furniture puzzles. With them, all the elements from which they are built are cut from one sheet of material. With his works, he participated three times in the Venice Design Biennale and was twice a finalist in the recycled plastic design competition of the Rossana Orlandi Gallery. With an engineer and illustrator father and an art critic and painter mother, Konstantin Achkov was simultaneously interested in the world of art and the world of high engineering achievements. This passion for a meaningful symbiosis of the technical and plastic in the creation of a work is always leading in his pursuits. The challenge of creating a memorable and seemingly impossible art structure that is well thought out from an engineering point of view is what he pays the most attention to in his work. A clear plastic sign and a clear structure in one are his principles when creating a work of art.
